Over the years, the band has evolved through several iterations and line-ups of great musicians and artists. Roel Vertov has a rule of never playing as a solo act, though some of the bootlegs from live gigs have been simply labeled Roel Vertov or Vertov. In fact, these shows were most likely different incarnations of the RLB, or Roel Vertov’s Retro Legion Band. Known by fans as the Retro Legion, or, alternatively, The Legion. Prior to playing with the RLB, core members of the band played in The Mighty Hundreds (from Poland).

In all of these variations, Roel and his bands have had the honor of playing shows (as headliners or as the opening act…) with The Dead Quimbys, Chrome Grandma & the Shakes, Los Muertos Muchachos, Urizen, The BurnOuts, Blue Chili, 2-Ton Heavy Thing, National Pornographic, Bill & the Kung Fu All-Stars, Walrus, The Mighty Dutch Diaspora (the MDD), and, as Roel mentioned recently during a local news interview about the band, “with, I can’t remember the name, but it was an ABBA tribute band in Budapest.”

Here is a calendar of the most recent shows played by Roel Vertov and the Retro Legion:

Roel Vertov & the Retro Legion are currently not on tour. We are in the studio working on a new album (Liefdesliedjes voor de overvliegende bommenwerpers/ Love Songs to the Bombers Flying Overhead) and a limited edition series of 10” LPs (4 LPs in all) entitled Late Night Karate Movies. We look forward to playing in your neighborhood, or, if necessary, to your neighborhood fascist. Until then…Tot ziens!]
